Dear Service Manager
RE: POOR FUEL QUALITY IN GREECE. ENGINE WARRANTY CLAIMS.
With immediate effect, please ensure customers are informed of the need to use Triumph engine management tunes entitled "Minimum 91 RON" where owners are purchasing fuels advertised as below 100 RON.
Customers who only purchase 100 RON fuel may use Triumph tunes entitled " Minimum 95 RON".
Greece has a disproportionate amount of engine related warranty claims in comparison to other markets. Extensive investigation has concluded that poor quality Greek fuel is directly responsible for this.
Every precaution has been taken to ensure that each current calibration contained in software release 2011.01 (onwards) has the maximum amount of engine protection designed within it to ensure the best engine component longevity possible. It is not possible however to ensure this protection is maintained should the motorcycle be run with a lower fuel grade than we recommend. We therefore strongly recommend that either owners run their motorcycles on 100 RON fuel to ensure the best possible longevity and performance or if customers are unable or unwilling to purchase 100 RON fuel, then these bikes MUST use the "Minimum 91 RON" tunes.
It has also come to our attention that some dealer are running the incorrect calibrations for certain motorcycle conditions (for example running an after market silencer tune, in a motorcycle without an after market silencer fitted). So called ‘tune trialing’ should not be conducted under any circumstances, as this too has been proven to directly affect the long term longevity of engine components.
As a result of this extensive research, from 1st October 2011 Triumph will no longer accept any warranty claims that we deem a result of using poor quality fuels. Any submitted claims for this will be subject to a thorough parts inspection prior to any decision being made.
We trust this information is both informative and clear.
Kind regards.
